Lyrics    [edit]

(EELS version - somewhat different than the Dylan-version)

If you're travelin'
To the north country fair,
where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
remember me to one who lives there,
she was once a true love of mine

If you go
when the snowflakes fall
when the rivers freeze and summer ends,
see she has a coat so warm,
to keep her from the howling winds

See for me
if her hair hangs long,
if it rolls and flows all down her breast
See for me, if her hair's hanging long,
for that's the way I remember her best

Many times I've thought about it
many nights I prayed,
in the darkness of my night,
in the brightness of my day

This song is also on a live album by E's good friend Pete Townshend - Live: A Benefit for Maryville Academy. On that album the song is called 'North Country Girl' and Townshend is credited as being the composer on that one... it's also on Townshends album All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, but I don't own that album so I'm unable to check the credits.

The line 'Remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love of mine' in Girl From The North Country comes from the song Scarborough Fair, an English traditional most famous in the version of Simon and Garfunkel.
